ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro new features and specs - must watch

Published from Blogger Prime Android App

we've got the brand new ASUSZenFone 7 Pro in the house for an unboxing. This has been announcedalongside the ZenFone 7 but there are very minor differences, we're going to go aheadand get this unboxed. And we've also got the ZenFone6 with us so we can do a bit of a hands on comparison and see what all of the differences are. Big seven in the middle ZenFone 7 Pro. So as well as a smartphoneyou get some paper work, a SIM card tool, a USBType-C to USB Type-C cable, a 30 watt fast charger, andthen you actually get two cases there's one plastic hard clearcase, as well as this one that has a bit more of a texture. Now let's get to the ZenFone 7 which I can take out the plasticand you'll see it's got a very similar design languageto the ASUS ZenFone 6. So there is this curvedglass back with a metal frame on the flip out cameramodule which really makes the ZenFone unique. Now quickly bringing in theZenFone 6 for a comparison. The first thing I do noticeis that the ZenFone 7 Pro is a lot heavier, thisis around 230 grams, versus the 190 grams on the ZenFone 6.

It's also larger all aroundso it's taller, wider and it's thicker. And you'll see that we do havea larger flip camera module and that is because we nowhave three cameras instead of the two on the ZenFone 6. You will notice that theZenFone 7 Pro does have more of a two tone finish forthis aurora black compared to the flat color of the ZenFone 6. The ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro are also available in a pass to white color. And as with the ZenFone 6 because of the flip camera mechanism,we do not have any water or dust resistance. You'll also see that wehave a fingerprint scanner on the back of the ZenFone6, on the ZenFone 7 and the 7 Pro it is now here on the side. And this also doubles up as a power button as well as a smart key,so you can assign it to do a few different actions,if you double press it, or if you press and hold, you can get it to open a particular app or GoogleAssistant or something like that. And now let's take a look at the front, so they do look relativelysimilar, I would say that the ZenFone 6 does have more of a chin compared to the 7 and the 7 Pro. And we also have anAMOLED display this year, which is larger, it's 6.67 inches, versus the 6.4 inch display that we've got on the ZenFone 6.

Asus Zenfone 7 Pro Price, Launch Date

Expected Price: Rs. 70,990

Release Date: Apr 14, 2021 (Expected)

Variant: 8 GB RAM / 256 GB internal storage

Phone Status: Upcoming phone

Resolution is still fullHD plus, so we do get a slightly lower pixel densitycompared to the ZenFone 6, but that's not really somethingthat's going to matter. And we now have 890 Hertzrefresh rate compared to the 60 Hertz that wehad on the ZenFone 6. This also has a onemillisecond response time with 200 Hertz touch sampling rate so it does feel very smooth. Now let's talk about what's very unique about the ZenFone series andthat is that flip up camera. This is something thatI've not really seen on any other smartphone. And this means that you can have the same rear facing camerasfor the front as well. And you can see that it pops up here. Now it's supposed to be fastercompared to the ZenFone 6, so let's just quickly test this out. Yep, definitely does pop out faster. Try that again. Yep, ASUS are also saying that it can hold up to 40% more weight. So when it is flipped out,if you try to kind of pull it towards the screen, it's goingto be able to take pressure up to around 35 kgs.

I'm not going to try this outhere, I do not do durability, I'll wait for Zack totest out the durability of this camera module. But one thing that we did havebefore that we also have now is that it will automaticallyretract if you drop your phone so that way it is going to protect it. ASUS have also said that this is good for over 200,000 flips, sothat's an average of 100 flips a day for five years. So this really shouldn't be a problem. The ZenFone 6 has beenfine for me over the years so I'm confident that thisis going to be absolutely fine as well. Now let's talk about these cameras. So last year we just had a primary camera and an ultra wide camera. This year we have a primary,an ultra wide as well as a telephoto camera. The primary camera isa 64-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture. Now on the ZenFone 7 Pro this does have opticalimage stabilization. On the ZenFone 7 regular there is no OIS there is only EIS. We then have an ultra widecamera which is 12-megapixels and it has around a 113degree angle of view. This is not as wide as whatwe had on the ZenFone 6 which was around 125degrees but we do have dual face detection autofocuson the ultra wide camera.

As well as the ability to take macro shots from the ultra wide cameraat 12-megapixels or so. You can get right up and close with this same ultra wide camera. And finally there is theeight-megapixel telephoto camera which is going to give you upto three times optical zoom. And this also has opticalimage stabilization on the 7 Pro, not the 7. Now for video we have up to8K at 30 frames a second. What's really interestingis that because we're using the same cameras on the rear,as well as on the front, that does mean that youcan get 8K video recording from the front facingcameras on the ZenFone 7 Pro. And I believe this is the onlysmartphone where you can have front facing video at 8K. Not sure why you'd want torecord 8K video for your face and highlight all the imperfections. But hey, there's also 4K addsup to 120 frames a second 1080p add up to 240 frames asecond and 720p add up to 480 frames a second. Once again these framerates are all available not only for the rear, but also for the front. So I can definitely seesituations where maybe you want to mount thesmartphone somewhere, but you still want to seeit for framing purposes.

And you'll still be ableto get that high quality for the front facing shots, whether that's images or video as you would do for the rear. And I think that's a big, big advantage for the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro. Now let's talk about the internals. So the ZenFone 7 Pro ispowered by the latest and greatest QualcommSnapdragon 865 Plus chipset, up to 256 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage, and eight gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM. The ZenFone 7 is going to bepowered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 not the Plus. So it's still going to be high up there in terms of performance, but it's not going to be as high as the 7 Pro. Once again, you do get UFS 3.1 storage, as well as LPDDR5 RAM, butyou do get half the storage so it's 128 gigabytesand the RAM also starts at six gigabytes. Now that's quite an upgradecompared to the ZenFone 6 which had the 855. And also for the RAM andthe storage, the ZenFone 6 has UFS 2.1 storage as well as LPDDR4 RAM, so speed and performance, the ZenFone 7 Pro and the ZenFone 7 right upthere with the competition.

Now as with the ZenFone6, the 7 and 7 Pro do have a triple slot so you canhave two SIM cards active at the same time andalso have a microSD card so you can expand the storage. Traditionally on many of the smartphones you either have to choosewith one SIM card and one microSD card or two SIMcards, with the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro, you can have allthree which is really cool. But one of the things that you don't get on the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro is a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. This is something thatyou did of course have on the ZenFone 6. We do you have stereo speakersthere is one on the earpiece and there is one bottom firing. And for the battery we do once again have a massive 5000 milliampbattery, this is the same size as the ZenFone 6 and ifthe ZenFone 6 is anything to go by, this is goingto last you all day long, maybe even up to two days for some people that is a big, big battery. But on the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro this time you do get 30 watt charging, which is up from 18 watts on the ZenFone 6, so that'sabout a 40% improvement. You can get from 0% to60% in around 34 minutes, or from 0% to 100% in around 93 minutes. However, unfortunately thereis no wireless charging.

This is something that Iwish the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro did have but I guess becausethis has such a large battery we can let ASUS off a little bit. And there are lots ofbattery care features. We've got a custom charginglimit so you can start charging out round 90% or 80%. The slow charging 2.0which will limit the charge to around 10 watts for less battery wear and 34% lower temperature during charging. And we've also got scheduledcharging, so you can schedule your charge to go all the way just before you wake up, for instance. And all of these things are going to help with preserving the batteryfor a longer period of time. So if you are planning onkeeping this for a few years, these battery care features aregoing to be very beneficial. Now for the software we do have Android 10 with ZenUI 7 on top. I actually really likedZenUI and it's come quite a long way compared to what it used to be. ASUS has really taken feedbackon board and made it really clean and minimal. And this time we also haveGame Genie, which is something that we find on the originalphone, and this will display information such as yourframe rate, your temperature when you are gaming. And finally for pricingthe only information I've been given as yet isfor the Taiwanese pricing so the ZenFone 7 Pro isgoing to be coming in at around NT$28,000. And the ZenFone 7 is going to be coming in at around NT$22,000.

I'll let you go aheadand do some conversions. And as soon as I've gotUK and European pricing, I will drop that down inthe description below. And to summarize the differencesbetween the ZenFone 7 and the ZenFone 7 Pro,you're getting the 865 Plus you're getting more storage, more RAM. And you're also gettingoptical image stabilization on the primary and the telephoto camera, or as you're gettingelectronic image stabilization only on the ZenFone 7 sonot a huge difference. I think it's really goingto come down to performance.
